Motivation is Garbage!

What? Motivation is Garbage? Huh??

I was recently listening to a podcast by Mel Robbins – check her out if you haven’t heard of her before. She’s great! In this podcast she talks about how Motivation is Garbage!

Her reasons why, fall directly in line with my thoughts on TAKING ACTION.

It hits at the core of why TAKE ACTION is the name of our program and at the core of our entire philosophy.

Motivation is garbage because it often is nowhere to be found when you need it most. It just doesn’t show up. It disappears on us.

When we are struggling, what we often find is the opposite of motivation. What shows up is overwhelm, procrastination, anxiety, depression, anger, or fear. 

What shows up are emotions that often paralyze us or move us away from taking those hard steps forward.

What shows up are those thoughts in our mind filling us with every reason under the sun as to why TAKING ACTION NOW… isn’t the right time. 

The underlying theme of almost ALL of those reasons is that you are waiting for motivation.

You are waiting for inspiration, to feel better, to feel ready  – before you TAKE ACTION.

You are looking for that feeling that helps you maintain your focus, your ambition, your drive to stay consistent.

You are waiting for that extra energy, extra boost to help you get over the barriers, over the “I don’t want to feeling”, to get over that hump.

Or one of the very common ones – you are doing all of the “busy work” – the underlying info gathering, paper shuffling, scanning, working on other things… AKA: Procrastination wearing the disguise of action.

Does any of this sound familiar? 😳

What you are waiting and longing for is Motivation to show up. The reality is…. I’m sorry to say it….. Motivation is not coming. Nobody is.

In fact if you want to change your life, get healthier, make the changes you know you need to make; lose weight, exercise, eat healthier, have a better mindset – What you have to do is TAKE ACTION FIRST!!

You have to TAKE ACTION BEFORE you feel ready.

ACTION starts the engine. ACTION gets the wheels turning in the right direction. ACTION first!!

It’s your responsibility to show up for yourself. So STOP!! STOP waiting.

TAKE ACTION. Pick one thing that you KNOW you need to do. Actual ACTION!! And start.

Make the declaration to yourself. It starts now!

Go for that 10 min walk – promise yourself – show up for yourself. Demand it of yourself.

No alcohol tonight – promise – show up. Demand.

No sugar today – promise – show up. Demand.

Pick one thing. AND START!

There are many tools we can talk about. Tools backed by neuroscience to help you maintain that focus and promise to yourself. Day after Day. To build solid habits.

However, for today. Make a promise. And TAKE ACTION.
